Happy Monday. It’s taken an entire week to recap my staycation. I know, I know, so lame, but really I just had little desire to blog and upload photos. Half of my time away from the office was spent at home, and the other half was spent away from Tampa with my husband (separate recap to follow, soon (I hope)). The first weekend to kick off the eleven days away from work started with a winery tour with the mister, my best friend, and her guy. We had a Living Social deal; a tour of Keel and Curley Winery in Plant City, Florida. This place was adorable! Before entering there was a BBQ truck outside. Welcome to Hillsborough County, ya’ll. I was in love with the place already. I forget that outside of where I live, is a big ol’ county full of land, animals, and a different life. It’s where my in-laws hail from, and I love it all.
[tour “bus” , group shot on ze’ tractor, girls, and boys…being good sports]
We had a nice tour (pulled by a tractor!), followed by eight samples of wine to try, before choosing a bottle to take home. Jason isn’t one for wine, so the rest of us took what we liked from his samples. I was a happy kid. In the end, my favorite wine was the Wild Berry Pinot Noir. A tad sweet, but smooth and surprisingly good at room temperature. The only “wine” I didn’t care for was their sangria, which is a shame because they just released it in a convenient 4-pack case; too sweet, and watered down tasting. I could see adding ice and fresh fruit, but then I suppose if I have to do all that to enjoy it, I should just consider another sangria, boo.

The tasting room had wine from Keel and Curley on one side, and craft beers on the other from their new brewery, Two Henrys Brewing Company. I loved it all, and will have to go back for a beer next time. If you’re in the area, I recommend making an afternoon of it! This winery, just forty-five minutes from our home was the perfect activity to kick off staycation.
After dinner, we opted for dinner at Datz, after my friends read our rave review of the last time we went! We did call ahead and were told the wait was around one hour. We ended up waiting 1.5 hours. That was my only gripe, really. In the meantime, we visited the bar for drinks. I mean I was on staycation, so why not?
[skinny dippin’ chicken skins: crispy chicken skins tossed in house-made sweet chilli curry sauce. These were outstanding!]
[april in paris (my meal): warm melted brie, tomato, arugula, basil pesto, served hot on grilled house-baked ancient bread]
[Jason’s dinner. desi arnaz cuban salad: iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, swiss cheese, ham, spanish olives, vinaigrette, he was happy]
Dinner was good, as usual. My friends enjoyed their meals, as did Jason, and I. I will be honest and tell you I’m not sure there is anywhere I’d normally wait that long for a meal, but I guess on the plus side that means everyone else was in the mood for Datz on a Saturday night. Also, I still swear by their potato chips! Good Lawd.
Sunday, I planned a small brunch with several local blog friends that I hadn’t seen in ages. A lot of us are in the same groups, and tend to get invited to the same events, and so when we meet then it’s usually a free time (holla!). But I have no klout on my own, and just wanted to catch up. We chose Grillsmith in South Tampa as our spot.
I do like Grillsmith, but nothing about my brunch blew me away, if I am being honest. I have been for lunch, and dinner before and feel like their menu has way more of a selection at that time. The service was great, which I always experience, so that is good. I was just glad to catch up with friends!
Monday-Wednesday feel like a blur to recap at this point, but I unpacked a bit, cooked freezer meals for my very preggo sister (who is now passed her due date!), made a meal for Lane (Chicken + Zucchini Meatballs with feta, and Greek Orzo), and met Baby Hadley. I also got my thick, curly hair did; if you can afford a keratin treatment, I suggest it! My hair looks normal again! I also made my Blueberry Jam, and Cuban Sandwich Skewers strictly for blog posts.
[lunch date with myself at Panera. Sometimes a solo date is nice]
[after keratin treatment. was snapping a pic to send the bff of how long my hurr is]
Trivia with friends also happened, and we came in first place! I only contributed to one answer (I was more interested in the Sea Dog Blueberry), but it was still fun.
Thursday, Jason worked a half day before we left for Orlando. More on that, soon.
How do you like to spend staycation?
