January is Hot Tea Month, and what better way to celebrate than with a warm cup of your fave tea?! Tea is actually now considered trendy where 42 percent of Americans under age 30 prefer to drink tea, 27 percent drink tea exclusively. I’m no longer under age 30 (wahhhh), but thirty was the age I started to really get into tea – it was around the time I started my first Whole 30, and needed to enjoy caffeine without adding anything extra like creamers, or sugar, that I used to enjoy in my morning coffee. I definitely #TeaProudly
Tea Proudly is a platform for tea drinkers (brought to you by Bigelow) to come out and make tea part of the conversation. To elevate tea! And share their passion for tea and how it is a part of their life.
My love for overnight oats goes on. I just love how many different ways there are to make them. Never did I think I’d be the type of person to say she was full from 1/2 cup of oats for breakfast, but here we are. I’m insanely satisfied until lunchtime when I eat overnight oats for breakfast.
Last week was a travel day for work, and on those days I especially like to make a batch of overnight oats because truth be told, I’ll eat them on my way to a practice visit. Last week I was out of almond milk, and needed another liquid to cook up my oats. The thought of just actual water sounded incredibly boring to me. I like overnight oats, but I also like flavor, people. Then I decided at the last minute to brew a cup of Vanilla Chai tea to cook up my oats. Since tea is second only to water as the most widely consumed beverage in the world, using it to make my oats was a quick, and flavorful solution to my breakfast dilemma. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before. As an added bonus, there are 30-60 mg of caffeine in a bag of black tea, so these Vanilla Chai Overnight Oats are not only filling, but provide a safe amount of caffeine to start my day. #holla
- 1 cup water
- 1 Vanilla Chai tea bag
- 1 cup rolled oats
- optional toppings: 1 tsp honey, coconut shreds, almonds, etc
- Boil water. Once hot, steep tea bag for 5 minutes. Discard tea bag.
- To a jar add oats, and pour brewed tea over dry oats. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours, up to overnight.
- Eat as is, or add desired toppings - enjoy!
You can brew your tea, mix in your oats, and call it a day. And while you’ll be able to taste the vanilla and chai spices in your oats, I like to mix in a little honey, and top with chia seeds, almond slivers, and shaved coconut before heading out the door. You totally don’t have to, but it doesn’t hurt to either.
Since the Vanilla Chai contains caffeine, on those mornings, I like to brew a cup of Mint Medley instead. The herbal tea with a minty kick is actually really refreshing – sometimes I’ll add a slice of fresh lemon to the Mint Medley, just because.
