Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday; the kick-off to the entire winter holiday season. And the season ends with my birthday on January 2nd, which makes the next six or so weeks, the absolute best, in my opinion!
Hosting our friends for our first Friendsgiving is just the way I want to begin the season. Jason and I have always wanted to have friends over for a proper Friendsgiving dinner at Casa de Crews, but thanks to law school, it was never a real option. I did work on a styled table a few years ago, and I still love it so much, but nothing can compare to the real deal, with your favorite people; football, drinks, great food, and lots of laughs. Have I mentioned how happy I am Jason is now an attorney, and the days of finals over the holidays are behind us?!
Friendsgiving should be a stress-free event! When we host my in-laws for actual Thanksgiving, I try and do it all, to give everyone else a break. And while I love it, and wouldn’t want it any other way, I’m generally exhausted by the time it’s all over. And stressed weeks leading up to it perfecting our table. It’s silly, because no one cares as much as the host, and everyone is always so appreciative of the work you’ve put into it, and truth be told, you could serve your meal on paper plates, and everyone would just be grateful for your hospitality! But that’s not how I roll, friends. Today, I’m teaming up with Ravenscroft Crystal to share a Copper and White Friendsgiving Table.
I like to mix all kinds of pieces for my perfect Friendsgiving Table. And since trends change all the time, I don’t want to spend a ton on decor, only to be bored next year, and I’m not really one to waste, so if I can repurpose a piece, I will. Spray paint was my best friend for this table! I used one can of Copper Spray Paint to modernize a few pieces I already had on hand.
I love bright, light, and clean! But my table is very dark. We have a large family, and our dining table has two extensions we can add/remove when we need to, so it’s incredibly functional, but not bright. I have a plethora of light table runners to help make it all pop. Crate and Barrel and HomeGoods are great places to find trendy looking runners, that aren’t crazy expensive. White pumpkins, and spray painted faux leaves I had from last year, helped pull this look together.
As a food blogger, most of my non-blog friends think I know a lot more about wine than I do. Honestly, I’ve learned over the years by attending tastings (check local grocers like Whole Foods or Total Wine!), reading, and trial and error. So I like to set two decanters out at dinner; one for red, and one for white. Most everyone I know enjoys Cabernet Sauvignon, or Malbec for red. Pinot Grigio, or Chardonnay are a safe white. But this is your holiday; so if you know everyone enjoys Moscato, set that in your decanter instead! Friendsgiving is about the whole day, and now what wine you’re sipping.
Obviously wine calls for wine glasses, and these Chianti/Riesling glasses are great for your Friendsgiving table (and yes, use them for any kind of wine you’re serving!), and since they have a stem, you can always snag fun wine charms for friends to use. While you don’t need wine glasses for water, I think it looks so pretty, and clean on a table. I especially love stemless, and they’re so timeless, and can be used all year long, and make it work.
I have always envisioned a table full of food for everyone to serve, family style. Butttttt, it’s either a pretty table, or all the food. So to make it work, I set each plate for dinner, and glasses, but then have a buffet style line in the kitchen with silverware for everyone to make their plates. It seems to work best for us!
As much as I love to feed the masses, I’m so excited to worry about 2-3 dishes, and let everyone else bring a side. Football will be in the background with apps, and this sangria to start, and then the main event later in the day. I feel like our home is finally coming together, and I can’t wait to host everyone for Friendsgiving dinner this year!
