Last weekend, we decided to finally check out the Locale Market in St. Petersburg, with friends. There has been so much hype over this new spot located in the Sundial [formerly the now defunct Bay Walk], that I could not wait to go!
As a bonus, the best friend’s brother, is a lead pastry chef at Locale Market, and we were excited to visit him on the job. Turns out, Jeremy was not scheduled to work after all, so now we’ll just have another reason to visit! I think we can handle that…
Locale lives up to all the buzz, you guys. A market downstairs with specialty items, gourmet food bars, a coffee station, gelato, a pasta station [for the love of all that is holy – yum!], with homemade mozzarella, as well as fresh, organic produce and meats. Plus, I am sure other items that I missed during this sensory overload.
Upstairs, you’ll find a wine bar, the bakery – order a caramel sticky bun, you won’t be sorry – as well a wine room [not sure what to call this, but you can purchase wine!], a meat and cheese counter, where you can order a charcuterie platter.
The day we visited, the best friend, our men, and yours truly opted for wine, beer, and a sticky bun upstairs at a family style table reserved for wine guests, only. We made friends with some ladies, and enjoyed the atmosphere. If you’re going to make friends with strangers, this is the way to do it.
The prices in the market varied – while the price on produce seemed somewhat high, the beauty of this fresh produce might be worth it as a splurge, or if you are truly local to Locale. I did buy a bag of Bob’s Red Mill Tapioca Starch for under $7, which costs a lot more online, and how I usually have to buy it, since I haven’t ever found it in any other store. I did see freshly made sausage at $6.99/LB, which seemed more than comparable to me.
After a few glasses of wine, we called it a day, and grabbed dinner closer to home, in Tampa. But you can be sure we will be back for a burger, or pasta, or maybe a gelato next time. The possibilities are endless, my friends.
If you’re in the area, make sure to visit Locale Market!
