I feel like life is just flying the eff by, and these recaps give me a minute to look back and remember what I/we actually did! I think I’ll keep these up, ya’ll. May was one for the books…
+ Jason finished the Spring semester with some of the best grades he has had throughout law school (#proudwife). I am so ready for him to be done (like he isn’t? LOL), but really, he’ll be done before we know it…tell my sighing ovaries this though, pleaseandthankyou.
+ We took a trip to Culpepper, VA to see our friends get hitched. We flew into D.C. and I thought we would have a whole day to explore, but it turned out our hotel was 2ish hours from D.C. We still made it to the city at night after a long car ride back in, checking into our hotel, and a metro ride later, or three…. At that point I was exhausted but we still did a bit of bar hopping with friends who live there. I had two drinks. Thirty-one year old Nichole prefers sleep to booze, you guys. That’s okay, I had a good time just seeing our friends. Plus, oh my lawd was the weather so nice! There was like zero humidity compared to Florida…I had several fabulous hair days – holla!
Culpepper actually has some touristy parts with a B&B, and is close to many Virginia wineries (our friends were married at Early Mountain Vineyards), that I’d love to go back and visit. We had dinner at a fab spot one night with friends who were not in the wedding, at Fotis. I’d love to tell you I have photos of this dinner, but I decided not to be a blogger, or event planner and just go with the flow – which was a great idea. Combine that with the fact that I pretty much never had cellphone service unless I was connected to the WiFi from our hotel, and I felt disconnected in the best way possible.
Somehow every single night, we were in bed by 3:30am. I was exhausted, but it was an ah-mazing time. A lot of our friends live all over the country – these friends are Jason’s. When I met them all eight years ago, I thought a lot of them were not my kind of people. But they’re definitely my friends and framily just as much as Jason’s after all these years. I love them like my own. It was a beautiful, exhausting, fun weekend!
+ The following weekend, Memorial Day, we drove two hours south to Ft. Myers to stay with friends for the weekend. Our old neighbors turned friends are some of the best people we know, but we’re all so busy that we never have time to hang out more than like a quick lunch an hour away for us both. So we decided weeks ago, we’d come to them and stay the weekend. The pups came too and played all weekend with their pup friends…everyone was very happy!
We explored Punta Gorda – full of many old people and a kick-ass brewery, Fat Point Brewing. We explored several bars, ate all the fried food (everywhere we stopped someone ordered a snack that we all shared), and just hung at their pad.
+ So many Lightning hockey games. I am so excited we’ve made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, but so many games…so much time lost to watch said games.
+ Work has been interesting. I started my new job right after our cruise. I was busy traveling and shadowing. Then I was at home working for six-ish weeks until I had my own assignments, and became so bored, and even a little down as this coincided with Jason’s finals, and I was alone a lot. Now, I finally have a regular schedule and am not home at all. I was hoping for some balance, maybe one or two days at home…but so far I am not stressed (I was beyond stressed in my last role with my company) and lucky for me, one of my assignments is 4 miles from our house, so I truly lucked out! I feel like I didn’t have a real routine these last 10 or so weeks, and now I think I will….which it turns out is something I need.
…what else? Saw a few movies (Avengers, Age of Adeline, Pitch Perfect 2).
