This stromboli recipe is just what I need as 2014 comes to end; crusty dough, a cheesy filling, and sauce for dipping. It’s a comforting Italian-American dish that warms the heart, soul and belly, my friends!
It’s also a dish that apparently causes my husband to speak as though he is Italian goon from Goodfellas {he isn’t, p.s.}.
“Ask me what I did today, Nichole.”
“What did you do today, Jason?”
“A little bit of this – ehhh, a little bit of that. Fuggedaboudit!” I could not make this up if I tried…
Truth be told, for the better part of 2014, I tried my hardest to eat as clean, and unprocessed as I could while at home {hello, Whole30}. Once we bought our first house {over the summer}, I did fall into old habits a bit, and then yo-yo’d back and forth with busy life in general, the remainder of this year. I definitely owe you all a weight loss update, soon.
But today’s post isn’t about all that! The #SundaySupper theme today is centered around our year end cravings, and this stromboli is something I have c.r.a.v.e.d, a lot! If for some reason you didn’t know, stromboli is simply pizza rolled, baked and cut into pieces – think pinwheel sammich, but so much better. And the way I make it, ain’t so healthy. And that’s okay by me for a year end indulgence. One last hurrah…or something. Whatever.
If you have the time, you can make your dough in advance, but if you’re craving stromboli NOW, and can’t wait for that dough to rise, buy the premade stuff – I like the pre-made pizza dough balls at my local grocery in the bakery section, personally. But use what you like!

What dish have you craved all year?
Does this make 2 strombolis sine the dough is divided in half?
Hi Diane! The ingredients listed in the recipe is for one stromboli. But you can always double up to make two!
Wow, talk about comfort food!!! This would so hit the spot on a freezing cold day (like today…). So delicious!!
That looks incredible! A good stromboli is hard to beat. Great post!
Yum!!! Now I want some Stromboli 🙂
Stromboli is definitely a comfort food in my books, this looks delicious!
It is definitely the ultimate comfort meal in our house!
Oh my gosh this looks incredible!! I’m literally drooling and wishing I was eating this for dinner tonight! xo, Biana
Your stromboli looks fabulous! I am going to be trying to make my own very soon! I would be so thrilled if you shared it with us this week at Foodie Fridays…we go live on Thursday nights at 9 pm EST. Pinned and I am going to yum it too!
Thanks, Michelle! I’ll make sure to visit on Thursday to link-up! Thanks so much!
You had me at sausage and peppers – yum!
This looks so good. I am staying away from gluten but I am sure I could find a gluten free crust.
Definitely! I know you could get a GF crust and make it the same way
I love italian-style baked dishes! cathy from delaware girl eats
See your pizza / sandwichy stromboli makes me want to start speaking like a Good Fella, too, Nichole! Seriously good looking comfort food filled with my favorite mozzarella and provolone =) Yum! P.s. I can relate to the highs and lows of first time home ownership =)
I wish I could have recorded my husband’s “Goodfella” talk, lol.
My hubby is like that too. Imitating accents and thinking he is good at it too. LOL. I love your Stromboli.
Ohh man, this is like the definition of crave worthy food!
AW MAN! This makes me miss dairy and wheat so much!
Aww, I bet! I try to stay away from wheat (gah, I love cheese, though) and grains most of the time, but if I am going to give in it was definitely for this stromboli 🙂
This sounds delish! I made my very first Stromboli this year, I’d love to try your version!
I hope you like it, Tammi!
I’ve not had Stromboli in forever – now I am definitely having a craving for this! Very humorous convo – love how men can do that.
Happy New Year!
My husband is definitely a trip!
I am totally craving this deliciousness. Wow! Gorgeous.
Yes please! I would like one now haha.
This looks fantastic – like a pizza roll! I would love to make this for a party!!
Right?! It’s perfect for a party because everyone can grab a slice and go!
Oh my heavens, these are gorgeous. Now I’m craving stromboli!!! Happy New Year!
This makes me think of my mom. She used to always make Stromboli when we were kids. Now you have me craving this. Thanks for that! 😀
I love stromboli! Yours looks amazing!
This is definitely the type of dish I crave – anything Italian food related has my heart!!! This looks seriously amazing…
This is exactly the kind of dish I want for my year end splurge! By the way, I think it’s important to get in some serious splurging before making our New Year’s resolutions. Thanks for the great recipe Nichole and Happy New Year! ~ Lisa
Best stromboli I’ve seen in a while. Totally making me crave it too.
I love the filling in here! I get the pre-made dough from our local store sometimes, too. 😉
