air fryer teriyaki chicken wings

Ingredients

chicken wings

  • 2 lbs chicken wings, tips removed and wings cut into drumettes and flats - approx 20 wings
  • cooking spray
  • salt and pepper, a pinch or so - to taste (optional)

teriyaki sauce

  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice - make sure no sugar or other w30 non compliant ingredients apply
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1-2 teaspoons red pepper flakes, if desired for heat - optional
  • 1 tablespoon arrowroot starch - can also use tapioca starch or cornstarch if not whole30/paleo

Instructions

  • Set your air fryer to 380 degrees F. Spray air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray. Using fresh (not frozen) wings, season with salt and pepper, if desired.
  • Line fry basket in an even layer (may need to work in batches). Cook at 380 degrees F for 18-20 minutes, shaking basket every ten minutes. After 20ish minutes, increase temperature to 400F and cook for 10 minutes. Remove wings from air fryer and toss in teriyaki sauce, using a large bowl.

  • While chicken wings are in air fryer, make teriyaki sauce. To a medium saucepan, whisk to combine all ingredients, except for arrowroot starch. Simmer on medium until sauce begins to bubble.
  • Once bubbling, reduce heat to low and whisk in arrowroot. Whisk constantly until sauce begins to thicken, about 3-5 minutes. Once thick, remove from heat and allow to cool 3-4 minutes. Can be made in advance.
