Made with thick Greek yogurt, frozen fruit, and healthy toppings, this Mixed Berry Smoothie Bowl recipe is a delicious and refreshing treat!
I absolutely love smoothie bowls; they’re perfect for a sit down bite versus a smoothie that I tend to gulp down on the go. I first discovered smoothie bowls at a local cafe in 2014 or 15 and since then, more and more frozen smoothie bowl spots have popped up in the area, and while they’re delicious and fun to sit at a cafe and work for a few hours, I don’t always want to shell out $16 for a smoothie bowl I can make at home for much less.
So now I make them at home for the most part with lots of frozen berries, thick Greek yogurt for added protein and texture, and fresh toppings such as fresh fruit, coconut flakes and granola.
This Berry Smoothie Bowl recipe with Greek yogurt is cold and creamy, thick and tangy!
smoothie bowl ingredients
My mixed berry smoothie bowl uses frozen fruit to make this smoothie bowl’s base. It lends for a thick and creamy bowl, that you can add toppings to for a slow melt so you have time to enjoy it without rushing.
smoothie bowl base
- Mixed berries: a bag of triple berry blend from the freezer section of any grocery store will do. Triple berry blend is usually a mix of frozen raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. You may also use a mixed berry blend which is usually strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. Both will work for the base of your smoothie bowl.
- banana: frozen banana to add flavor and balance the berries. You want frozen to keep the base thick, if possible.
- Greek yogurt: to add protein and keep creamy and thick.
- almond milk: to help thin the base slightly. Any nut milk will do for this recipe.
smoothie bowl toppings
this is where it gets fun and you can customize however you like for toppings! Here are a few suggestions, but feel free to add what you like:
- banana: sliced
- fresh berries: raspberry, blueberry, raspberry, sliced strawberries, etc
- shredded coconut
- chia seeds
- granola
how to make this recipe
Smoothie bowls are incredibly foolproof but you in case you’re new to homemade smoothie bowls, here’s how to successfully make them:
- Add your frozen berries, frozen banana and Greek yogurt to a blender.
- Blend until mixed together and thick.
- Scrape the sides of the blender down and add almond milk to help thin slightly. You want the smoothie from the blender to be thick and sturdy but not so thick you can’t get it out of the blender. Start with 2 tablespoons almond milk and blend to combine. Add up to 1/4 cup (which is 4 tbsp) of almond milk, depending on your personal desired texture for your bowl.
- Add your favorite toppings and dig in.
