When you can’t decide between a margarita, or a Corona, sip on a Beer Margarita; the best of both worlds! Made with fresh squeezed lime juice.
There was no way I could *not* post a margarita recipe the Friday before Cinco de Mayo. Truthfully, I’m incredibly simple when it comes to a marg. I like em’ pretty classic, which probably sounds kind of boring, but I like what I like, friends.
My only stipulation when sipping on a classic margarita, is that it must have fresh lime juice. I can’t do sour mix. I’m thirty-four, and my body will straight up revolt against me if I do it. Plus, why buy the mix when it’s honestly super simple to juice your own limes? I have a small hand juicer for recipes that need a few tablespoons of fresh juice, but I also have a little electric juicer for when I need to juice 10-ish limes; like I did for this Beer Margarita.
The first time I had something similar to this my friend, Lane, made a pitcher before a Zac Brown Band concert – her version was equal parts limeade, tequila, water, and beer. It was perfect (and S T R O N G) for a little Florida tailgating before a live show.
Tomorrow, we’ll actually have friends over for a pitcher of my take on a Beer Margarita, with Barbacoa Nachos, before ubering to Downtown Dunedin for a street festival! I’m so excited. The weather is going to be nice, and even though the streets will be crowded, it’s a really fun vibe; with drink and food stands, live music, and a parade. Plus, the line as Casa Tina’s wraps around the block, which sounds awful, but when you’re with a group, one of you can get drinks, while the others hold your place, so you’re kind of doing it all. All while wearing flower crowns, duh.
I cleaned this drink up just a little with a homemade simple syrup, fresh squeezed limes, and Corona Light beer. You can honestly use any beer you like, but truth be told, I really enjoy Corona Light if I’m drinking beer, and that’s probably what I’ll switch to once we leave Casa de Crews to hang with friends, so why not get a start with a refreshing margarita while I’m at it?!
For color, I rimmed each glass with a chili salt mix (just equal parts Sea Salt + Chili Powder). That’s totally optional, and completely up to you. I’m currently obsessed with these plastic tumblers from Opalhouse (at Target) mainly because they were less than two dollahs, but also because as summer makes its way, I’m all about plastic serveware. Enjoy!
Beer Margaritas with Corona
- 12 ounces fresh squeezed lime juice - about 5-6 limes
- 6 ounces simple syrup - (recipe to follow)
- 12 ounces tequila
- 1/4 cup Grand Marnier
- 1 cup water
- margarita salt, or sea salt, to garnish - optional
- lime wedges, for garnish - optional
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- To a pitcher, add lime juice, and simple syrup. Mix well. Pour in remaining ingredients, and stir to combine.
- Rub a lime wedge around the rim of each of tumbler, and dip it into salt.
- Pour margaritas over ice, top with lime wedge (if using) and enjoy!
- In a small saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil. Simmer until the sugar is dissolved, about 3-5 minutes, whisking occasionally. Remove from the heat and let cool completely. Can me made several days in advance.
