This homemade gingerbread latte is the perfect winter drink. With warm spices like ginger, nutmeg and molasses, it tastes like the holidays in a mug!
This time of year is honestly my favorite. It’s a busy time, but a festive time full of all the parties, and catching up with your people. It’s chaotic and jam packed, but it’s also the best time of year!
Warm holiday lattes are definitely a must for me in the fall and winter. But I don’t need to spend all my money on all the coffee drinks – and I don’t need all of the extra sugar just because.
Making homemade lattes at home this time of year could not be easier. Homemade lattes not only save on money, but they also help to control how much sugar you’re consuming. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather get my extra sweets from a solid dessert, instead of a latte.
Homemade Gingerbread Lattes are the perfect hot bevvy to make on the weekends with friends; every year, my girlfriends and I get together for a gift wrapping party at my house and you can guarantee these lattes will be on the menu!
What is a latte?
A latte is a coffee drink that is normally made with espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam.
You don’t need an espresso machine or milk frother to make a perfectly delicious homemade latte though! Any strongly brewed coffee at home will do. And it’s very easy to make a foamy milk froth from your own kitchen as well. I’ll explain more below.
But first, let’s chat coffee makers!
I recently received the Mr. Coffee® Easy Measure 12 Cup Programmable coffee maker so that I could try it out and use it to make this Gingerbread Latte recipe. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and l love it! Hover on the image below to order yours from Target!
Making coffee is easy: with it’s easy to use color coded measuring system (one scoop, carafe, and water reservoir), the Mr. Coffee® Easy Measure 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker gives guidance on the right ground to water ratio for a consistently better tasting cup of coffee. This coffee maker allows me to enjoy consistent coffee with every cup, taking the guesswork out of making coffee so I can have delicious, consistent results every time.
Make as little (or as much) as you want. Most days, I only have one cup of coffee for myself. Jason likes a cup at home, and take a cup to the office with him – so that’s approx 3-cups/day. But when we have company, especially this time of year, we brew a lot of coffee. The Larger Brew Basket holds 25% more coffee grounds* (*than comparable Mr. Coffee 12 cup coffeemakers standard nylon filter) so whether it’s coffee for two, or coffee for all, I can customize each pot of coffee!
It has an amazing filtration system. Advanced Water Filtration: Multi-Stage filtration reduces impurities for better taste
- Stage 1: Removes up to 97% of chlorine from water* (*as a result of the Mr. Coffee water filter and brewing process)
- Stage 2: Targets calcium to reduce water hardness
It makes good coffee. I’ve tried many, many coffee makers over the years. What I love about the Mr. Coffee® Easy Measure 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker is that it’s a simple design that’s easy to use that just makes good coffee. And who doesn’t want a good cup of coffee?
It’s a familiar, trusted brand. My first coffee maker in my early twenties, was a Mr. Coffee® and it was SO reliable. That’s why I still trust this brand for my coffee today. And I am not alone. Did you know that Mr. Coffee® is America’s #1 coffee maker brand? You can read more about it, here!

Where to find gingerbread syrup
It could not be easier to make your own gingerbread syrup at home. With just five ingredients and ten minutes, you can have a batch ready to add to your Gingerbread Latte whenever you want! Get the recipe here. However, since this is a busy time of year, if you don’t have the time or energy to make your own gingerbread syrup, you can easily buy at your local grocery.
Because this is meant to be a simple latte recipe, I won’t include the syrup instructions in this post. You know where you can find my homemade gingerbread syrup recipe, or you can find on your next shopping trip. You do you, friend! Whatever is easiest this time of year for you, is what works best.
What kind of coffee to brew
Like any good coffee, a good espresso starts with a good roast. Although there’s no such thing as a true espresso roast, any coffee can be used to make espresso – I suggest a darker roast. The darker the roast, the bolder the flavor, which helps make this homemade latte taste like a coffee shop latte – maybe even better!
If you’re making this Gingerbread Latte with kids in mind (my twelve year old niece loves the taste of coffee), you can absolutely make this latte recipe using a decaf dark roast coffee as well. It will not affect the flavor of this latte recipe.
If you’re making your Homemade Gingerbread Latte to go, you can make it as is, sip and enjoy. If you’re making this on the weekends with friends or family, feel free to garnish each latte with a generous dollop of whipped cream, ground cinnamon and a gingerbread man for good measure. ‘Tis the season after all – enjoy!
