Pomegranate Pinot Punch combines the most festive flavors of the season that’s perfect for a party! Fresh pomegranate juice with your favorite pinot noir – what isn’t to love?!
If you make one cocktail recipe from Halloween until New Year’s Eve, it has to be this Pomegranate Pinot Punch! This punch is like a holiday sangria but better. Plus, it can be made in advance, and the longer it sits, the tastier your fruit will be. If that doesn’t make for a delicious party punch, I don’t know what will.
How do You Make Pomegranate Pinot Punch
- To a pitcher, add Pinot Noir, orange liqueur, pomegranate juice, and apple cider. Mix well. Chill for 1 hour.
- When ready to serve, to each glass, add ice, then punch.
- Garnish with orange slices, and pomegranate seeds.
I originally made this party punch for Halloween a few years ago. Then, it became a staple at Thanksgiving, and sometimes when it’s just my family and it’s finally cold enough in Florida for a bonfire, this is the punch I’ll usually make. This punch is perfect from fall until winter! Make it now, and let it become your own with your peeps. My gift to you 🙂
Why we like Pinot Noir for this Punch Recipe
- Why Pinot Noir? Pinot Noir is a low-tannin red wine. Tannins are naturally-occurring compounds in grape skins, seeds and stems that can make the wine taste bitter. Cabernet Sauvignon, for example, is high in tannins. And because this is a chilled wine punch, we want to use a wine that is low in tannins, such as Pinot Noir.
- Because red wine receives the majority of its tannins from the grape’s skins, where it also receives its color, the thinner the skin, the less tannin it has to impart into the wine. Pinot Noir is the go-to in this low tannin category, with light, fresh flavors and low tannins. When it comes to sangria, the problem with tannins is that they don’t actually taste good when chilled. But low tannins taste just fine!
Also! Yes there is wine + liqueur, but there is no refined sugar or sweetners! A lot of the time, I’ll add a touch of honey to a sangria or party punch, but between the apple cider and orange liqueur, garnished with fresh fruit, this punch recipe doesn’t need it.
That being said, if you’d like to add a bit of honey, I’d recommend starting with 1 tablespoon and increasing, to taste.
How Long Does Pomegranate Pinot Punch Last?
- This punch will last in the refrigerator for up to two days. The longer it sits, the more pronounced the orange slices and pomegranate seeds (arils) will be.
I like to serve this Pomegranate Pinot Punch over crushed ice. If you’d rather sip this punch without watering down, use larger ice cubes. Larger ice cubes melt much slower, which means your drink won’t water down as quickly – cheers!
