Ever since buying our home, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect dining room furniture. It took Jason and I a good six months to find something we both liked (and a price we could agree on). We finally found a winner this past spring!
I love the look of the dark wood, with light tufted fabric chairs. The bench was a separate purchase, but you’d never even know it. The first thing my mom told me when we bought these chairs/bench was, “You better Scotchgard™ it!” That was the very first thing we did to protect the new dining set. #mommaknowsbest
Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector repels liquids, and blocks stains by pushing them away from the fabric fibers so stains release easily. I make sure to refresh the chairs each season for ample protection using Scotchgard™ Fabric Protector. It’s so easy to do.
To apply the Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector, you first protect the non-fabric materials around from overspray (if it gets on any hard surfaces around like wood or plastic, you simply wipe it off before it dries). I generally take the chairs, and bench outside on the patio. Next, you (obviously) shake the can well. I tested an area for colorfastness before applying on the top of the chairs, by spraying the fabric on the bottom (underneath) until wet, and then wiped vigorously with a white cloth. Fortunately, no color rubbed off so I was good to go with my full application! When spraying the protector, you hold the can upright at 6″ away from the fabric surface. I used a slow, sweeping motion to overlap the spray over the surface of the stool seat. I allowed time for the first coat to dry, then applied a second coat. After everything was dry, I brought the chairs back inside, and all was right in the world.
Jason was more concerned for the table, and wanted a tablecloth on at all times. To me, that defeats the purpose of showing the set off, so I like to switch out seasonal place mats and table runners, instead. Right now, I just love these place mats.
To protect the table, we use coasters, various place mats, and I have an array of fun trivets to protect from heat.
I wish I had realized before our first runner for the new table was ruined, that Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector can be used to protect those kinds of fabric, too. You live, and learn. Now that I know it, Scotchgard™ Fabric Protector is on any, and all fabric at Casa de Crews – including our curtains!
Scotchgard™ Fabric & Upholstery Protector can be used on cotton, polyester, silk, wool, acrylic, nylon, and most other washable fabrics, which means you can even use it on dress pants, suits, and ties – did you know that? I had no idea!
