This easy recipe for Swiss fondue is sure to impress your guests all holiday season! Dunk crusty bread, crisp veggies, and crunchy apples for a flavorful party.
Is fondue still cool? I feel like it comes in waves, right? Personally, any party where you can dip bread into a warm bowl of cheese is always good in my book. As much as I love modernizing traditional dishes, fondue is one classic that doesn’t need any help. It’s delicious and festive as-is. And this holiday season, we’ll make fondue a true fete with the help of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc and Corona Extra!
This time of year life is busy. And every year, I tell myself not to commit to too many events or host too many gatherings, but here we are, folks. We’re booked pretty much every weekend from now until 2020. I love it and I’m tired. But mostly, I love it.

But in order for me to truly love the holidays, I need easy staples under my belt—like a Swiss fondue recipe! Here’s where it’s even easier: I make the fondue dip and ask guests to bring their favorite snacks. It’s kind of like a snack board meets a fondue party. Plus, no two fetes will ever be the same this way—which makes it interesting.

What to Dip in Swiss Fondue
- Bread: Grab a French or sourdough baguette and cut it into 1-inch cubes so that it can be easily skewered. Toasting is optional but adds a nice crunch.
- Apples: Sweet or tart, the crunch from a nice apple slice dipped into fondue is a classic for a reason!
- Pretzels: Easy to dip but not skewer. I just adore this flavor combination.
- Roasted Baby Potatoes: potatoes and cheese are always a good idea. Or potato chips would also be fun.
- Steamed Broccoli: broccoli and cheese go together like peas and carrots but so much better.

Do I need a fondue pot to make fondue?
While you don’t have to own a fondue pot to make cheese fondue (Honestly, I find myself making it on the stovetop and transferring to a fondue pot most of the time anyway), using a real fondue pot does add extra flair to your fete. And in the end, it will help to keep the fondue warm and melty.
For this Swiss Fondue Fete, I suggest buying block of cheese and shredding yourself. Shredded cheese has extra preservatives to avoid clumping, but it doesn’t melt easily. Block Swiss and Gruyere are the way to go when making this fondue—enjoy!

Easy Swiss Fondue
Ingredients
- 3 cups Swiss cheese - shredded
- 3 cups Gruyere cheese - shredded
- 2 tablespoons organic cornstarch
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 cup white wine or chicken broth
- pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- Kosher salt and pepper
- assorted dippers and snacks such as: cubed baguette, pretzels, apple slices, broccoli, carrots, etc.
Instructions
- Shred cheeses. Add shredded cheese to a large bowl and toss with cornstarch.
- Rub the inside of a fondue pot with garlic; discard garlic. Pour the wine into the fondue pot, and place over medium-low heat. When liquid starts to bubble, start adding the cheese by the handful, stirring with a large wooden spoon until melted and combined. Season with nutmeg, salt and pepper. Keep over low heat until ready to serve.
- Alternatively, you can prepare on the stovetop in a saucepan and pour into a fondue pot to keep warm, right before serving.
