This Homemade Chai Spice Mix is a warm blend of spices inspired by chai tea! With just six ingredients, it’s the perfect add-in to so many fall dishes!
I’m in such a fall state of mind right now. Even though it doesn’t feel like fall here, the chill is coming [they say by the end of this week], and ready or not, I’ve been craving all the chai, and apple and cinnamon. And, and….all the spices.
Now here’s the thing, it’s not actually all that hard to just buy a jar of chai spice blend at the grocery, but there’s something this time of year that makes me actually want to slow it all down, and cook more. Plus, in all honesty I had all of the ingredients on hand to make a batch of homemade chai spice mix, that this was a no-brainer for me.
So! What can you add chai spice to? Um, pretty much everything? Chai Tea Lattes, overnight oats, apple butter, pie mix for an extra level of warmth.
If you download my free Thanksgiving eBook: Your Ultimate Thanksgiving Menu + Prep Schedule [subscribe here!], there’s a recipe for a Maple Chai Pear Pie that’s so festive and amazing, and calls for this chai spice blend, as well!
You could make banana bread, or zucchini bread with chocolate chips and chai, and add a tablespoon or so of this homemade mix. Again, whatever you want, boo. The sky’s the limit on this one! Do people still say, “boo.”?
What are chai spices:
- cardamom
- allspice
- cinnamon
- cloves
- ginger
- nutmeg
To be fair, nutmeg is not always found in chai spice blends. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t. For fall, nutmeg is a must in our pantry, so I’ve included in the recipe. I just feel like it adds an extra little bit of comfort this time of year.
You can also triple or quadruple this recipe and gift it to friends this time of year. I like homemade gifts, but I also like practical homemade gifts, you know? Like I love you, but I probably won’t make the hot cocoa you blended me, and I’m sorry. But if you have me a spice blend of any kind, I’d happily get creative and add it to everything! I like to gift in these little weck jars – but any small airtight container will work to gift or store in your spice rack.
