Just five ingredients stand between you and a refreshing Strawberry Basil Margarita made with a homemade strawberry basil puree!
STRAWBERRY BASIL MARGARITA
I love a refreshing cocktail, and margaritas rank high on my list of tasty tequila drinks, so making one in the middle of spring is a must!
I like to keep my margarita recipes simple and uncomplicated, and while this Strawberry Basil Margarita is very easy to shake or stir up, this one does have an extra step and you’ll want to make sure you have a blender.
STRAWBERRY BASIL PUREE
I have tried this recipe two ways; the first way was by muddling fresh basil and hulled strawberries, before shaking with tequila and orange liqueur. And that was tasty, but not balanced enough for me.
So then I decided to puree in the blender, and this margarita turned out perfect!
To make a strawberry basil puree, you will need to blend: fresh strawberries and basil, with honey or simple syrup. Then you pour over chilled tequila and orange liqueur.
Alternatively, if fresh strawberries aren’t in season, you can use a 12-ounce bag of frozen strawberries, that have been thawed.
Any orange liqueur will work; I love Grand Marnier or Triple sec. Cointreau is another great option. I highly suggest a clear (blanco) tequila for this strawberry margarita recipe, but use what you like.
This margarita is so fresh and bright and honestly it’s the perfect cocktail from now until Labor Day!
HOW TO MAKE THIS A MOCKTAIL
If you can’t have a margarita with alcohol, you can still enjoy this refreshing mocktail with the strawberry puree, fresh basil garnish and a fizzy water such as Topo Chico, La Croix or any other sparkling water of your choice.

To make this single serve
Margarita: Place 2-3 tablespoons strawberry puree, 1.5 ounces (3 tbsp) tequila, 1 ounce (2 tbsp) orange liqueur, and 1 tbsp lime juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake for 10 seconds, and then strain into a prepared cocktail glass. Garnish with extra basil if desired.
Mocktail: Place 2-3 tablespoons strawberry puree, 4 ounces sparkling water of choice, and 1 tbsp lime juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake for 10 seconds, and then strain into a prepared cocktail glass. Garnish with extra basil if desired.
You can absolutely make these margaritas in advance if you like! If you’re making in a pitcher, do not add ice until ready to serve. The last thing we want is a watered down marg – cheers!
