Ahhh, pizza. Who doesn’t love a good pie? Did you know October is National Pizza Month? I somehow didn’t know this, but thanks to Gallo Family Vineyards Wine, I’m more than aware now, and I plan to celebrate accordingly!
Anything where the base of a dish is a doughy vessel for toppings or fillers, and I am one happy girl. I’m also a simple girl when it comes pizza. I’m quite satisfied with cheese, mushrooms, and sausage, when ordering out….most of the time. There was this one time though, Jason and I went to a local pizza spot, and we decided to get a little crazy, and order a pizza loaded up with ricotta cheese. It was ah-may-zing.
Ever since, and I am obsessed with ricotta cheese on my pizza at home. The creamy, richness of the ricotta (I feel like I should be speaking like Giada when I say, “ricotta”, by the way) gets a tad melty, mixed with tomato sauce, and you guys…it’s pretty much life-changing.
But I still love my simple pizzas. So I’m taking sausage links and slicing them into coins, so that the flavor and texture of said sausage, with the smoothness of the ricotta are like a party in your mouth. You could easily make your own Italian sausage at home with the right spices (I do this often), but I’m taking the easy way out on this one. Mainly because I love the textures on my pie.
A glass of Gallo Family’s Hearty Burgundy is the way to go with this recipe. Their Hearty Burgundy’s well-balanced fruit flavor pair well with grilled sausages. You don’t have to take this sausage to the grill, per se, as it can easily be done on your stove-top.
If reds just aren’t your thing, I recommend my favorite Gallo white wine, instead; a chilled glass of Riesling. Gallo’s Riesling is a versatile white, and pairs well with just about anything (this is not the first time I have talked about my love of Gallo Family Vineyard’s Riesling!) Find your next bottle, here.
Feel free to use whatever shell you like for your dough. I prefer naan, personally. I eat less pizza this way, the base is already made, and also, it’s thinner than your normal pie, but not so thin, that it can’t stand up to the tasty toppings we’re loading it up with!

My favorite pizza is alfredo sauce, topped with, bacon, garlic, spinach, onions, peppers, ricootta cheese , parmasean cheese, mozzarella cheese. I cook bacon keeping it soft not crispy, remove and drain fat. In same pan put in all vegies cut to desired size and soften, then top naan with any alfredo sauce, add softened cooked vegies, then break up bacon and place all over, add fresh onions, peppers, sliced long and thin, add fresh spinach, parmesean cheese, then dallops of ricotta cheese, then mozzerela, heat in oven till mozzarella is melted and light brown on 400°. So good!
That sounds heavenly, Mary! I’ll definitely have to try it!
Love your site and your ideas, definitely will be following! I love to cook! Soothes the soul.
I totally agree, Monica! Cooking in the kitchen is where I relax. Thanks for following along!
I LOVE naan bread, and the combination of sausage and ricotta sounds just perfect!
My husband and I can never agree on a white pizza or one with sauce. You made one that is the best of both worlds then topped it with my favorite topping, sausage. So yummy!
Ricotta on warm naan bread…. I might be drooling. Definitely worth trying with a glass of wine, of course. Cheers! 🙂
The combination of sausage and ricotta must pair well with each other and I’m absolutely positive you made a great choice to pair it with the Burgundy.
I love the idea of using chewy naan for a pizza crust! So tasty!
Sausage, naan, ricotta?! OMG brilliant. Pinning immediately.
Two of my favorite ingredients, sounds delish and I won’t turn down a good glass of vino!
You’ve pretty much sold me! I am definitely going to be putting ricotta on my next homemade pie! This sounds amazing!
I love ricotta on my pizza, and it’s so perfect with sausage too. Plus that little kick form red pepper – let’s just say I’m glad there is built-on portion control with the naan!
Haha, I really love naan! But the fact that I can somewhat control the portion is just an added bonus!
Naan pizza is one of my favorites! Love the sausage and ricotta on top!
I am obsessed with this one!
You are BRILLIANT to make pizza on Naan bread! Best part is that you chose two of my favorite toppings.
I am a simple girl when it comes to toppings 🙂 Sausage is my fave!
I love everything about your pizza—from the crust to the ricotta and sausage topping to the sprinkle of fennel seeds! SO delish!
